I have a hard time with botanicals. I'd probably be using the Nikor 60mm macro if I take the time to try to shoot them. Unlike most other macro lens, with the 60mm I have to get very close to the subject to get the true 1:1 and that gives me fits with lighting and my DOF. What I've been trying lately is to get back a little further and use f/16. That seems to let me get a handle on things, but it means a tighter crop in post.

Shooting time isn't anything out of the ordinary if I don't have to secure the subject from movement. Find a something interesting, set up the tripod, compose in the viewfinder, and as quick as autofocus can lock its done. I'll shoot three or four then recompose for three or four more before moving to another subject.
