Not at all. Nail it. I'm curious for opinions. Honestly, while I'm not a pro I think I have a reasonably good handle on the technical aspects of the camera gear that I own (not very much )

I've come to understand that in terms of style and artistic merit, opinions are like *******s, everyone has one That being said, having the great people on this board give me ideas about things I'm playing with help me shape my style because the opinions of the people here are closer to my own.

Well then ... I'd throw it away.

The original looks to have taken when the sun was at its highest which has resulted in a huge dynamic range which in turn has caused little detail to be left in the snow and the shadows very dark as well.

The treatment has saved the photo somewhat in that it now now of an image I think but in the end I don't see too much merit in other areas of this photo. The tree that seems to be the main focal point is under-exposed and the scene overall doesn't really hold any major point of interest for me.

Had the tree been used as a partial frame and the s shape in the snow a leading line towards the distant buildings then I think this scene could have worked well.

Finally though, and I've done this myself many times, it looks more like you wished it was a good photo, tried to make it such, but didn't get there.
I find myself throwing away these photo at later dates because I finally take a similar photo that makes me wonder what I was thinking the first time.

But hey ... I learn a lot trying to save shots like this so it's never a waste of time.

Did get to play with GIMP using Curves and such and learned a bit about tweaking an already good photo. Not all lost
