Thanks Bambi. I know I could do a lot better on this shot but I need a more versatile tripod, something with almost a crane head on it This was shot in low light at 3200 ISO, f16 (really wanted f22) hand held using a 105mm Nikon 105mm micro (macro to the rest of the known universe) lens. None of my tripods will allow that angle, that close. Somebody, somewhere must make such an animal!

This forum is all about learning so I have to ask as I obviously don't have a clue about what I'm doing. Why would you want to go to f22? f16 obviously would give you the DOF you were looking for (or would it at this distance?). Ahh, maybe that's it... it's a macro thing?

I think I can answer that Ig....if I may be so bold MAW....please correct me if I am wrong here.
F22 will give you an even larger/wider DOF than F16 so even more of the photo would be sharper/in focus. I imagine on the forest floor it was quite dark (can't believe you got such a great shot at ISO 3200...without noise!) hence the high ISO.

I'm sure you got it. What I was thinking was that f16 is already a large DOF but then I'm realizing that's only if you are standing 10/20 feet away from what you are shooting If you are right on top of it, then the DOF is compressed and so you might want to close down to f22 to increase the DOF which is shallow due to focal point being very close to the lens. Makes perfect sense now but I don't always think about it when I'm pressing the shutter.... have to think about this one some more.

Cool shot MAW.

I have the Manfrotto 190 Pro BX and it can get in to this position. You can spread and extend the legs, so should be able to set it to any height. The only thing you need to watch is that it doesn't over balance with a big lens. You can spread the legs to compensate and keep the head close to the center.
