Wow ... awesome scenes. I'd love that 2nd shot more if it was at least almost straight though

You will need to learn to correct your white balance now you have a real camera Bambi ... have a look at these shots ... all three have the same snow in them yet all the snow is a different colour in all of the shots.
The exposure on that 2nd shot is exceptional though ... the snow is out in the open in some spots and under shady areas in others ... yet you've retained most of the texture ... that's really good work.

In the first I did a bit of PP that added a filter. I liked the effect so left it-hence the difference in white for that one. But I see what you are saying for the other two. Is it because the light was different in the two locations? By the stream there was lot more shade. Thanks for the comments re: the texture. Even minor manipulation in PP washed it out so I left it pretty much alone.

Of course right now I have the camera on auto WB 'cause it knows more then me at the moment. (with Casils help I just figured out how to set the Auto bracket and the exposure compensation )
when you are out shooting how can you tell if your WB is correct or not?

Level - forget the trees ... look at the stream ... you can clearly see the two banks are lopsided when they should be straight. Water always tries to sit level. Obviously this doesn't apply to fast flowing water as much as it's obviously going down hill.

I shoot mostly in Auto WB too but only because I also shoot in RAW and can change the WB later at will. When shooting JPG you need to chimp alot to make sure you have the right balance. But it's not a big thing ... most good editing software like Photoshop etc has a Colour Balance tool to correct this.

You managed to get a blue cast in the first shot ... which actually looks good because blue matches 'cold' (just re-read your comment ... you meant that blue cast) ...then a yellow cast on that second shot ... not so conducive as yellow is a warm colour ... and a slight red cast in the final shot ... again a bit warm.

Yes the difference in light is what causes this change in colour.
