    I saw this and it made me feel like a wimp for not daring to go out on the ice myself!

    probably a snowmobile... the two outer tracks are from the skis on the front, and the single wide one in the middle is from the drive track.

    Ah ok. So is there a reason why they didn't drive straight across but chose to stick closer to the shoreline? Stronger ice underneath??

    Other than driving a ski-do in a straight line on a lake would be as exciting as water skiing w/o turning? Nope, ice can be too thin any where. All it takes is a bit of flow underneath.

    sorry to our southern hemisphere friends for not describing what it was!! it's so much a part of our world here that I forget not everyone know it.

    Yes it's a snowmobile. I am grateful to the riders because they make it so I can keep going on my walking trails by packing the snow. I may soon venture out following the trail to see if there are interesting shots from the lake side.
