Just lovely, MA. I too am drawn to the one with the houses. I think it's the voyeur in me realizing that each of those homes has someone in it going about their business, eating, watching TV, etc. Richard's idea would definitely intensify that feeling.
I also vote for the first one. The sky's colors are a bit stronger, especially the touch of red. Works well.
I'm torn myself. I like the less cluttered look of the 2nd one but I am partial to strong shadow and silhouette shots. I think the 1st gives more for the eye to look at though.
