    Default flowers gone wild!

hiked up Mt. Waternomee yesterday in a quest to find the B18 bomber wreckage from 1942 (we did eventually find it), but stopped along the way to photograph trout lilies and trillium. I have never seen so many of either species and it was as though they were lining the trail cheering us up the steep slope.

a row of purple trillium not yet opened

a purple trillium crashing the trout lily party

they're so named trout lily because of the unusual mottled leaves, the blooms last about a week and the whole plant, leaves and all, dies back until the following spring

the profusion of trout lilies was really a sight to behold, they covered huge swaths of the hillside, they're about 6-8" tall and 1-1 1/2 inches wide.

anyway...still processing photos of the plane wreckage and the giant waterfall on Walker brook.

    Beautiful pics WD.
Have to agree. Hiking sure takes a lot longer with so many stops now.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!
