    Default Down to the Waterline

This is the very end (or is it the beginning?) of the Templeton Gap - a gap in the hills that lets the ocean air and fog come far into the valley, lowering temperatures and making the area along the path very good for agriculture (the avocado groves are amazing). These flowers are on a hill above Whale Rock Reservoir and the Pacific. All along the Gap you can stand on hills and still see the ocean. It's pretty cool.

Very nice WD. I like the composition here too.

Are the hills so sparce due to logging/clearing? Or just wind etc?

Is that a dam wall in the background?

That is a dam...good eye. Trees don't grow in these hills much because there isn't a lot of water. Mostly they're grasses, small bushes and wildflowers - but you can see some trees (probably oaks) tucked in there on the right. Where there is no irrigation a lot of the hillsides are brown. It isn't quite desert, but doesn't get a lot of rain and it's windy pretty much all the time.
