Icy flow

So this year I've done some winter hiking (microspikes rock). Is it me, or does snow really add something extra interesting to river and brook photos? I mean, everyone has long exposure running water photos, but for me the snow adds an element of depth and definition that spring and fall shots lack.

A grab shot from a bridge - the Piscataquog river.

Oh and I LOVE winter for B&W, too. The tonal range the snow affords makes it perfect. This next one almost got me tossed in the drink. Tripod and me balanced with every leg on a different surface.

I agree with you, the snow is fab in winter photography and adds a very special dimension for those of us that are lucky enough (or cursed

) to spend many month each year in the winter.

and you are so right...b/w is fab in the winter. My fave shots in this set are 1 and 2.

Shot 1 is a classic beauty imo. Since you asked for comments, I might burn in the sky quite a bit and I'd likely increase the blacks on the right middle side...

still, I really dig it so - Nominated.

Thanks much. I used to hate winter, but not anymore now that I have plenty of stuff to do in it.

As far as the pp advice - I would take it if I had the least idea how to do that in Lightroom, the only application I use for post processing. I've already tweaked the curve elements and could probably do it more, but this satisfied me.

Oh and thanks for the nom. Who thought a newbie would be so noticed?

this is a lovely set! well done. You are inspiring me to go out with my camera and tripod.

but then when I see the -25 windchill I rethink my position and decide I should practice my indoor lighting shots

Great set! #1 is my favourite as I've pictured it in my head but could never find the right location/weather conditions to capture it.

thanks everyone. It was a blast getting all of these. I'm so bummed we haven't had a decent snow storm in a while. it's getting ugly out there.

Bambi - a tripod is just about the #1 thing you can use to improve your landscape photography, and it's absolutely necessary to get images like #2 & 3. I hand held the rest.

Thanks for sharing these. I enjoyed the first one, gorgeous black and white tones. The last one almost has a sepia quality because the water is so dark and has that brownish patch to the left bottom. Nice.
