    Talking Major Geek

I'm a major geek. BSc in Computing Science. 25 years of programming computers. Our house has 3 desktops and 2 laptops. My day job is as an Information Architect where I research better ways to manage information and build software solutions. My spare time is spent either with my family or at the dojo where I practice Chito-Ryu karate. I like playing with YouTube and PicasaWeb

I do non-geek stuff like turn a wrench, hike, snowboard and workout. And I was in the military...

Buuuut... I am an IT major student, have more computers in my living room than places to sit, enjoy build diy things and spend more than half my free time on the computer. And not to mention a serious gadget and tech fetish...

I am a geek! I admit it! Anyone who builds a computer into their car has to be a geek, right? There would be no argument if you saw my high school pic.

I think I largely qualify as a geek. I manage large corporate computer systems and the 'geeks' who look after them. I have two PCs on my desk, a laptop, a blackberry and my iPod touch...

At home... well... it continues, but

I also love hiking, caving, abseiling, mountain bike riding and road cycling.

I do long distance road riding and have completed the Paris Brest Paris 1200km ride twice (and a few other 1200km rides).

So all in all, I'm half very geeking and half not.

You much more into road than I ever was Greg. Do you also do endurance MTB racing?
Have you seen my websites? mtbdirt.com.au and roadgrime.com.au ?
If you've been reading Enduro magazine for your mountain biking over the past several years you'd have read my articles and seen my photos. This year I've switched to Australian Mountain Bike magazine. I put 4 articles into their special edition that came out at Christmas and just submitted an article and photos for the next edition.

MA I'll check out your websites. I have not done any endurance mountain bike riding. My mountain bike riding slowed down when I had a stack in the bush and drove my right thigh bone (I'm sure there's a technical name for that) straight through my hip. Punched a hole straight through the acetabulum - the hip socket.

I don't have any side effects as long as I keep riding and keep fit. I think they screwed it together pretty well, but my head still remembers the pain

I still head bush, but just not as the same speed especially downhill.

I'll have to keep an eye out for your photos in the magazines.

Oh yeh merman ... you're a geek alright. You might even more of a geek than Gem!!

You do have a sliver of hope though ... you ride bikes and snowboard. Neither are geeky. But then you are sooooo Geeky that you think they are so that's a worry! More of those two activities and less of the other geek activities and your soul might be saved!
