Ok. Well I just had a meeting with my old boss from the golf club and I am hired back as a Starter. Pay isn't great but there are some definite perks. Free food and golf, and a $1500 bonus check at the end of the year. He also asked me to be the 'head' photographer for their tournaments this year. Instead of paying me as a photographer, I will just stay on the clock and take pictures instead of working. I also will need to get a quality lens as well.

Its for golf, so I think those will make the ladies look their best.

Although I could probably charge WAY more as a photographer, he mentioned that if things work out, he could probably get me into the LPGA Jaime Farr Kroger Classic as well. As much as I want to ask for separate pay as a photographer, I do not want to risk the potential opportunity of the situation. I accepted already, but is there anything I should be aware of or consider?

JJ - congratulations!!!! I am sooooooo happy for you! I think that you should probably think in terms of a contract so that there is no bad blood...think of a prenup... just in place to protect and serve.

I think you did the right thing JJ. And congrats on the work.

I think you shouldn't look at the loss of dollars you could make if you charged as a photog but rather look at the dollars you'll make annually instead.

In this global crisis I think it's just great you have a job again and wouldn't be jeopardizing that. The experience of the golf shoots will be helpful to your photography skills base.

Just looking at the lenses you are choosing. I take it you prefer Prime lenses?

Not that I don't like them but I do wonder whether a single decent zoom lens might do so much more for you in this case and help reduce the lens changes.

That's great news indeed JJ and congrats! Sounds like an absolutely wicked-good gig that has the potential for potential good things.
I think MA's got it right here; a zoom is likely the most prudent choice. That said and I haven't read any of the reviews on those 2 lenses...but if I had to choose between only those 2..I'd want it to get closer-up so I'd choose the 300 but not as a 'regular' lens on the camera.

    Congrats JJ!
I agree with MA regarding zoom rather than prime, because you never know where you are going to end up. If you end up closer than you expect, like trying to shoot putting if you get on player on the far side of the green and one on the closest to you will have to move.
Of course the other big thing with events is work flow and processing. Make sure you get that included in your "On the Clock time" as it can be a considerable amount of time.

I agree with everyone else as well JJ...they have some good points for consideration.
Congrats on the job, the perks and the potential future benefits from acceptance.
I'm going to be working/cooking at a golf club this summer as well and looking forward to it!

Here is my thoughts behind the lenses. I have two Pentax camera's so colors should match up pretty well. I figured I would go out with both camera's, one prime lens, and then an adjustable zoom lens on the other. Prime lenses get much better quality images than zoom lenses at that range so I want to maximize the potential of the camera(K10) and the lens. Then, on the K110 Ill keep a shorter 80-200 in case I find myself in a different situation. It might be a little much to carry, but I would rather be prepared instead of scrambling to change lenses. Have my "Go To" lens(prime) then if something comes up, switch to the other camera with a shorter lens.

Yep ok ... having the two cameras makes your decision make much more sense now.
